Timing is Everything

You may be wondering what The Party Bea is all about. In truth, it's not new at all. I've been working in party styling and event planning since I was 16 years old. I got my start at a local flower shop in high school and I quickly fell in love with flower arranging, setting up weddings, events and private homes for the holidays. It really was the best job I ever had!

During my college years I studied Theater at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, VA and while I L-O-V-E performance, the visual aspects of design always spoke to my soul. I found I had a flair for set dressing and design. And at the end of the day, what is theater if now the ultimate event experience?

Fast forward a few years and I found myself working in a variety of event gigs, including as a special event planner for the National Gallery of Art in DC. I recall at that time knowing that one day I'd have my very own event company, but it was just a little seed at that time. The launching point of making that happen was when I partnered with my long time friend Jennifer Henel and co-founded Atelier Floral Design. Talk about making dreams come true. I got to do something I love AND work with one of my closest friends. Win-win!

My passion for events is only matched by passion for my yoga practice. I'm an experienced teacher in the DC Metro area (which is just a fancy term to say I've taught more than 3,000 classroom hours) and have led retreats, workshops and teacher trainings. My practice keeps me grounded and calm. It also helps me tap in to my creative side and follow my inspiration. I've been teaching since 2008 and haven't stopped since. You can learn more about that side of me here.

In yoga, we call this dharma, or your soul's purpose. When you're aligned with your dharma, all things fall in to place.

The thing is, as much as I love teaching yoga, I really miss the thrill of planning and styling events. I love working with my hands and getting them dirty. I love logistics and planning. I love being creative and finding visual ways to express ideas. There's been a voice in the back of my head telling me it's time to get back in the event game and I finally decided to listen. In yoga, we call this dharma, or your soul's purpose. When you're aligned with your dharma, all things fall in to place.

Timing is everything. As I look back over the past few years, there was absolutely no space in my life to launch a brand new business. But things have shifted and I'm absolutely ready to step back in to the arena. I'm excited and ready to move forward on this new adventure.

Look forward to posts on this blog on how to make your party buzz, set your personal style, tap in to your creative side and learn my favorite DIY tips and tricks.
